Alright, so a little bit of background....
Important fact #1...I might be part hoarder. I see random things and I NEED them... And that was the case several years ago when I came across a giant bag of multi-colored balls--like the kind you'd find in a McDonald's play pit at Wal-Mart. I was still in college going through the teacher-ed program and I was sure they would come in handy for some sort of educational activity--sorting, counting.. something.
We moved about a month ago and my husband found this bag of balls and commented on how he had moved them twice and we'd never used them.
Well... thank you Pinterest.... I found a use for them! Dump the bag of balls into a pack and play and wah-lah! You have an instant ball pit.
Important fact #2... my son LOVES to drag stuff out of the kitchen cabinets. When we moved this was also a great piece of knowledge for me. I put all the baby-proof kitchen stuff in the lower cabinets and all the no-no's up high. When I cook, Kaiden drags out every pot and pan he can find and makes his own little drum set, obstacle course, etc. in the kitchen. It's great fun for him, lets me cook dinner with little interruption, and the pots and pans usually they stay in the kitchen.. Occasionally his favorite will find it's way into the toy box in the living room. But wouldn't you know, today my little 12 month engineer grabs a cupcake pan and BOOKS it to his bedroom.
Kaiden is starting to talk all the time. Most of it is probably unintelligible to most people.. but mommies seem to have a way of understanding their babies. Anyway, one way he loves to communicate is to point to whatever he wants and grunts. And today he was pointing to the ball pit and grunting that he wanted in. So I put him in... And at that point it clicked in my inferior adult mind what he was doing. The balls in the ball pit fit PERFECTLY in the muffin tin.
We put balls in, we dumped balls out, we sorted by color, we made patterns... This provided us HOURS of entertainment today.
